NNormal: "Your Path, No Trace"
A new vision for outdoor gear was born between the rugged mountains of Norway and the sun-soaked shores of Mallorca. NNormal is the result of a unique partnership between world-renowned mountaineer and trail runner Kilian Jornet and Camper, the historic family-owned footwear company. For Kilian Jornet, the motivation behind NNormal was clear: the outdoor industry needed a shift.
Kilian Jornet and Sustainability
Kilian Jornet has dominated the trail running and ski mountaineering scene for over 15 years, winning major races and setting speed records on some of the world’s most iconic peaks—including a double ascent of Mount Everest.
Raised in the Spanish Pyrenees, he has spent his life pushing the limits of mountain sports while advocating for climate action and environmental conservation.
“Sharing the same values was a strong motivation to start this project,” Jornet explains.
“We agreed that we need a new way of thinking and acting in relation to our environment and outdoor activities.” -Kilian Jornet
With the multicultural nature of its founders and company, the name NNormal is inspired by Norway (“Nor”) and Mallorca (“Mal”), where the brand’s core development takes place. They created their company based on values such as environmental responsibility and fostering a community with social and environmental responsibility.
NNormal set out to build high-performance outdoor gear with a commitment to durability and transparency—challenging the culture of overconsumption. Instead of focusing on fast trends and mass production, NNormal prioritizes functional, long-lasting products designed with a minimal environmental footprint. Products are designed in Mallorca with Camper’s deep expertise in footwear craftsmanship and tested in Norway, where Jornet puts them through the harshest outdoor conditions.
NNormal’s mission, encapsulated in the motto “Your Path, No Trace,” emphasizes inspiring people to enjoy nature responsibly. The brand is committed to sustainability, durability, and transparency, aiming to rethink how gear is made and used to reduce environmental footprints.
NNormal's Approach to Circularity
NNormal’s No Trace program, in partnership with Vibram challenges the way we consume and discard outdoor gear. By offering resoling services with high-performance Vibram Zegalite outsoles, along with repairs for laces, uppers, and stitching, the program directly confronts the culture of fast consumption in the outdoor industry.
Rather than pushing customers toward constant replacement, NNormal is actively promoting a shift in mindset: What if the best gear isn’t the newest, but the one that lasts the longest? While the program is currently limited to select European countries, its expansion could set a new industry standard for durability and circularity. However, its success hinges on consumer participation—will outdoor enthusiasts embrace repair over convenience, or will sustainability remain a niche priority?
NNormal: Small Actions, Big Impact
To further minimize their ecological footprint, NNormal employs environmentally friendly packaging solutions. They collaborate with The Invisible Company to provide packaging that can be dissolved in hot water, eliminating waste and reducing the use of traditional packaging materials. This innovative approach reflects their dedication to sustainability throughout the product lifecycle.
To maximize the longevity of your gear, NNormal advises hand washing rather than machine washing, avoiding harsh heat, and following maintenance guidelines for specific products. This includes cleaning running shoes gently with water, drying them at room temperature, and caring for apparel with neutral detergents. By taking these small steps, you not only keep your gear in optimal condition but also contribute to a more sustainable outdoor lifestyle.
NNormal maintains transparency in its production processes, collaborating with factories that share their values. One such partner is Petratex, located in Carvalhosa, Portugal, known for its commitment to sustainable practices and certified green building. By working closely with these facilities, NNormal ensures that their products are manufactured responsibly, with a focus on reducing environmental impact and also sharing their impact with transparency.
NNormal specializes in high-performance outdoor gear, including footwear, apparel, and accessories, designed for trail running and mountain sports. Their footwear lineup features models like the Kjerag and Tommir, optimized for various terrains and long-distance endurance.
1% For the Planet and B Corporation
NNormal pledges to donate at least 1% of its annual sales to environmental initiatives as a member of the 1% For the Planet program. In 2024, these contributions included the “Restore the Trails,” which focuses on restoring mountain trails and degraded areas, and “Running Minds,” an initiative that combines running with environmental education to raise awareness about climate change and its impact on the natural environment.
NNormal’s B Corporation certification shows its commitment to balancing profit with purpose. This means they meet high social and environmental standards, ensuring their business benefits people, communities, and the planet. The B Corp status is not just a label—it’s about being transparent, reducing waste, and focusing on durable products to cut down on consumption. Their efforts, like partnering with 1% for the Planet and the Kilian Jornet Foundation, reflect their dedication to sustainability.
NNormal's Circular Journey
NNormal stands out as a brand committed to environmental sustainability and responsible manufacturing. Through their partnerships with organizations like 1% for the Planet and the Kilian Jornet Foundation, they actively contribute to preserving the planet and raising awareness about climate change.
