Laura Lakam and Petite Ganache: A Story of Cultural Identity, Craftsmanship, and Sustainability

Petite Ganache blends style, sustainability, and cultural identity to create timeless kids’ fashion with a purpose.

The kids' fashion world is an entire universe of its own. Creating clothing for humans who grow out their clothes every few months makes it incredibly challenging to find ethical and eco-friendly pieces that fit your style. Luckily, Laura Lakam from Petite Ganache is here. She has created a brand that looks stylish on your kids and feels responsible for you as a parent.

A Journey from Dance to Design

Laura has a background in many disciplines and has lived in different locations, such as Paris and London. She has worked as a pastry chef, studied communications, worked in retail, and served as a visual merchandiser, and was even a kids dance teacher. Eventually, she fell in love and ended up in Rotterdam, where she became a mum.

Petite Ganache was born out of a struggle she experienced first hand, finding nice, well-made clothes, with cool design and good fit, especially pants for her daughter, Lou. As someone who puts great effort into her own style, she wanted the same for her child.

From Sewing Lessons to Global Brand

To address this issue, Laura decided to take a sewing course, where she learned how to create patterns and cut and sew pants. This gradually evolved into the Petite Ganache brand that exists today, with retailers around the world and a community of parents and kids who reject the status quo.

Petite Ganache Fashion

Petite Ganache was created out of necessity, to have stylish yet long-lasting clothing for children. Kids grow quickly, often wearing items for just one season. However, Petite Ganache pants can be worn for multiple years with its boxy fit and seasonless design. Throughout each phase, they maintain their stylish vibe: rolled up, normal length, ankle length, and eventually even cut into shorts due to their oversized nature.

The materials are carefully chosen to be durable, featuring thick organic cotton twill that makes them both kid-proof and high quality, ensuring they can be passed down or even sold secondhand.

Sustainability and Ethical Production

Beyond longevity and durability, Petite Ganache is committed to ethical production. The brands' pieces are responsibly manufactured in Portugal, ensuring fair labour conditions and sustainability at every stage.

"Sustainability is not just about the materials, Laura explains. "It's about the relationship between the child, the clothing, and the story behind it." Laura Lakam

More Than Just Clothing A community

Petite Ganache Fashion

For Laura, Petite Ganache is more than just a clothing brand, it is a movement. The brand fosters a community of like-minded parents who value quality, representation, style, and conscious consumption. Representation plays a key role in Laura's vision.

"I want to make sure that in my campaigns, the children reflect different ethnic backgrounds. Representation matters. I want kids to see themselves in what they wear."

Looking ahead, Petite Ganache will continue to grow alongside Lou. With its thoughtful design, sustainable ethos, and a strong sense of identity, Petite Ganache is more than a brand; it's a reflection of Laura Lakam's diverse journey, proving that fashion can be both meaningful and impactful.
