Meet MoEa: Sneakers Turning Plants into Fashion

MoEa is changing the sustainable fashion scene with sneakers made from fruit waste, plant-based materials, and a whole lot of purpose.

MoEa is short for 'Mother Earth', and that represents exactly what the brand stands for. Using materials and practices that yield the lowest possible impact, this Parisian brand reaffirms that stylish and comfortable shoes can be created without harming the planet.

MoEa GEN1 sneakers

Bio-Based by Design

All MoEa sneakers are crafted using bio-materials made from plants and fruit waste, such as pineapple, apple, and grape skins, combined with organic cotton and recycled fibres.

It is not the first brand that takes such an approach, and the reason is rooted in numbers:

  • Bio-material production emits 95% less carbon than traditional leather production (2.93kg CO₂/m² vs. 61kg CO₂/m²).

  • Bio-material production lowers energy consumption by 85%, requiring only 43.2MJ per m² on average, compared to leather’s 288MJ.

By choosing a Bio-based and local approach to manufacturing, MoEa reaches, on average, a carbon footprint of 6.4kg of CO2 per GEN1 pair (their signature sneaker model). This represents a significant decrease compared to the 30.1kg of CO2 typically emitted during the production of traditional leather sneakers.

And it's not just a 'take our word for it'. These metrics are backed by FAIRLY MADE®, France’s leading traceability and impact measurement platform, which conducted MoEa’s Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs).

A Stand Against Cruelty

MoEa’s goal is simple: to make sneakers that are as stylish and comfortable as traditional leather pairs, but without the cruelty, waste, or guilt. That means zero animal products, radically reduced emissions, and locally produced goods that don’t travel halfway across the world before they reach your feet.

“We launched MoEa to create sneakers that offer the same level of style and comfort you’d expect from your favourite leather pair, while ensuring that the planet isn’t some sort of meaningless afterthought.”— MoEa

Parisian Attitude, European Approach

Though the brand calls Paris home, MoEa is proudly pan-European. Its team is made up of innovators and makers from France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland, brought together by a shared mission to flip the script on footwear.

This diversity is what fuels the brand’s values: innovation, responsibility, and collaboration across borders.

Closing the Loop with [Re]MoEa

Sustainability doesn’t stop at the point of sale. MoEa wants its sneakers to last, and when they wear down, the brand offers a solution that repairs them.

In collaboration with a French artisan shoemaker, [Re]MoEa offers professional repairs for worn-out MoEa sneakers. Whether it’s replacing soles, restitching fabric, or fixing structural damage, the process is simple:

  1. Choose the repair on MoEa’s website

  2. Receive a payment link by email

  3. Send your sneakers by post or drop them off at the Levallois-Perret store

  4. Wait just 10–15 working days to get your kicks back, good as new

Plus, thanks to France’s Bonus Réparation law, you get a discount automatically applied at checkout when you choose to repair your shoes instead of tossing them. It’s a win for your wallet and for the planet.

Second Life

When sneakers reach the end of their life, MoEa steps in again. This time, with Second Life, an in-house recycling program designed to reduce waste and raw material extraction.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Fill out the online form

  2. Send in your old GEN1–GEN4 MoEa sneakers using a prepaid label

  3. Receive a 25% discount on your next pair as a thank-you

The returned sneakers are carefully broken down, and usable materials are reintegrated into the production of new models. MoEa is actively working to bring GEN5, GEN6, and GEN7 into the program, too, though for now, they’re not eligible due to the bio-EVA sole constraints.

MoEa is a company that’s built its business around climate action, animal welfare, and radical honesty.

All of their activities and values are out in the open. There are no vague pledges, no 'green' collections tucked into a sea of fast fashion. Just real impact, thoughtfully measured, and constantly improved.

And in a world of noise, that’s something worth stepping into.
