VEJA, the French Brand renowned for its sustainable sneakers, is expanding its footprint- this time into warmer territory. For the first time since its inception, the eco-conscious label is introducing a new category of footwear: sandals. Named Etna, the unisex sandal is set to launch on May 14 at 10 AM, both online, at several retailers and in stores.

A Concept Years in the Making
Although Etna marks a new product line for VEJA, the idea has long been brewing. "We had the idea 15 years ago because we work in Brazil, and Brazil is the country of sandals," says Sébastien Kopp, VEJA's co-founder and creative director. The timing, however, is what made the difference. "Now it's the right time for us to go ahead with the launch."

Sustainable by Design
In line with VEJA's reputation for ethical production and environmental transparency, the Etna sandal stays true to the brand's core values. The upper is crafted from organic, traced leather sourced from certified farms in Uruguay. The sole combines recycled rubber with Fair for Life-certified rubber from Amazon, a partnership that supports both the livelihood of rubber tappers and rainforest preservation.
Meanwhile, the insole reflects VEJA's ongoing innovation in sustainable materials. It's made from a blend of recycled and bio-based plastic, using corn as its source material.

Built for Everyday Comfort
With six versatile colorways and a unisex design, the Etna sandal is meant to fit seamlessly into daily life.
"It's designed for comfort and simplicity, " Kopp explains. "It's something that can be worn every day, for anyone. "

A Future Without a Fixed Roadmap
As for what's next, VEJA isn't rushing to map out the future. "There was no plan at the beginning, and there's no plan now, " Kopp jokes. "We go step by step. "
With the launch of Etna, VEJA takes a bold yet natural step forward- one sandal at a time.
