“Bring it back, sing it back…”—If you’ve ever been on a dance floor in the early 2000s, you’ve probably heard those iconic lyrics from Moloko. But since 2024, “Bring it Back” has taken on a whole new rhythm. It’s not just about nostalgia; it’s about circularity.
What does it mean to Bring it Back?
In a world that is finally recognising the environmental damage caused by our linear consumption habits, the concept of circularity is more important than ever. This approach encourages us to think, live, and create in ways that keep materials in circulation, restore natural systems, and reduce waste. But what does this actually mean in practice? Who's already making it happen? And how can we get involved?
These are the questions that are asked at the heart of the Bring It Back Circular Event Series—a dynamic series powered by Rotterdam Circulair and brought to life by Re The Agency. The mission is to empower and accelerate the circular movement by bringing together corporations, entrepreneurs, educators, and everyday citizens of the city of Rotterdam.

Bring it Back #8: Sneaker Deconstruction Workshop
We're excited to announce the 8th edition of the Bring it Back events series, and this one will be fully hands-on. Taking place on the 24th of April, this interactive workshop takes you one step further into the world of footwear, inviting you to dissect and explore the complex anatomy of a sneaker. You will explore the different materials that make up a sneaker and why they make it so challenging to recycle.
On average, over 20 billion pairs of shoes are produced globally each year, with many ending up in landfills after just a short lifecycle. By breaking down and understanding the problem first, we can start thinking about solutions. Can we change the production and design of sneakers to be easier to recycle or decompose? Can we make them easier to repair? Can we use fewer components?
This workshop aims to spark this very conversation and inspire the next wave of professionals and footwear designers aiming to incorporate a more circular approach to their work.
Be part of the movement
Whether you're a student, sustainability enthusiast, industry professional, or just curious about sneakers and how they are made, Bring it Back #8 is your chance to get involved. Through an interactive exploration and shared discussions, the workshop shares awareness about how design and the choice of different materials affect a product's afterlife and environmental impact. More importantly, it empowers participants to start taking circularity as an everyday way of thinking, bringing it beyond the workshop into their studies, work, and daily life.
Are you ready to be part of Rotterdam's circular revolution? Join us on the 24th of April at Bever Alexandrium, Rotterdam, for Bring it Back #8 and start imagining new opportunities for the products we use every day.
