Vestiaire Collective is a global resale platform that focuses on pre-loved luxury and designer fashion. Founded in 2009 in Paris, Vestiaire Collective offers an alternative to fast fashion by promoting circular consumption and extending the life span of high-quality pieces.

With over 5 million listings and 35,000 new items added daily, the platform provides one of the largest curated collections of second-hand fashion in the world.

High QUALITY and TRUST

The platform was created by a group of professionals, including founders Fanny Moizant and Sophie Hersan, who recognised the growing demand and potential for conscious consumption. As a result, they introduced an authentication system, which is now a standard feature in luxury resale, that is designed to verify the legitimacy of the items being sold.

The platform features over 12,000 brands ranging from high-end designers like Fendi and Chanel to contemporary labels like Maje and Sandro. However, unlike many of its competitors, Vestiaire Collective does not allow any fast fashion brands on its platform. Items from companies known for low-cost, high-turnover production are not accepted—a policy that reflects the company’s broader strategy to reduce fashion’s environmental impact and promote long-term consumption habits.

The buyers and sellers on the platform benefit from 360-degree protection policies, curated price recommendations, pre-paid shipping for sellers, and a monitored community of verified users. Their partnerships with luxury brands, such as Gucci, Burberry, and Chloé, reinforce this strategy, along with a multi-step verification process:

  • Digital authentication by in-house experts

  • Physical authentication checks within their international hubs

  • Quality control for material condition and brand tags

A like-minded global community

Beyond its marketplace features, Vestiaire Collective places a strong emphasis on building a community of fashion enthusiasts who share a commitment to quality, sustainability, and style. The platform enables users to sell their pre-loved items easily and fairly, but its broader impact lies in cultivating a culture of conscious fashion.

With a global presence, offices in seven major cities, and over 800 employees representing more than 50 nationalities, Vestiaire Collective continues to expand its reach under the banner of its core belief: “Long Live Fashion.”

Sustainability as a mission

Vestiaire Collective operates under a 100% circular business model, which the company states reduces environmental impact by up to 90% compared to buying new items. It is also the world’s first fashion resale platform to achieve B Corporation certification—meeting strict standards for social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

In our recent interview during SXSW with Vestiaire Collective’s North America CEO, Sabrina, she emphasised that circularity is not just a business model for the company but a long-term strategy. She spoke about the importance of creating authentic entry points into the brand, highlighting how secondhand fashion offers a more accessible and sustainable path to luxury, combining value, affordability, and environmental responsibility.

Growth and future plans

Despite the competitive nature of the resale market, Vestiaire Collective continues to grow. In 2023, the platform reported a 25% increase in sales, outperforming broader trends in the luxury fashion sector. In 2024, the company raised over €3.5 million through a crowdfunding campaign, attracting more than 3,000 individual investors, and now, according to leadership, the next phase includes a push toward profitability and, eventually, a public offering (IPO).

As it expands, Vestiaire Collective will continue to position itself at the intersection of commerce, community, and conscious consumption, redefining what it means to engage with fashion in a more thoughtful, sustainable way.
