New Trend Unlocked: Loewe is Turning Oranges into Shirts

In collaboration with Pyratex and Orange Fiber, Loewe is blending cutting-edge textile innovation with their signature craftsmanship, proving that sustainability and sophistication can go hand in hand.
Citrus waste

Loewe is squeezing something fresh into its luxury fashion line, quite literally. With the help of textile innovators Pyratex and Orange Fiber, the Spanish house is turning orange peels into stunning garments.

In their latest collection, Loewe introduces a new material that stands out in both story and feel.

At first glance, it’s a soft, earthy orange. But dig a little deeper, and you’ll find something more. It's made from the byproducts of the juice industry.

This innovative fabric is developed by Madrid-based Pyratex and uses Orange Fiber, a patented material spun from citrus pulp that would otherwise go to waste. It’s not just sustainable, but high-performance.

Why It Matters

This isn’t just another 'greenwashed' collaboration. Orange Fiber is a certified, traceable textile backed by GRS, GOTS, OEKO-TEX, and even B Corp standards.

It's produced in Italy using a closed-loop process where the fibres come to life through a partnership with the Lenzing Group, creators of TENCEL™.

From Sicily’s citrus fields to the looms of Como and Sondrio, this is sustainability with serious credentials.

And Pyratex?

This R&D lab is known for transforming everything from seaweed to banana stems into wearable textiles. Their citrus line delivers natural antibacterial, cooling, and UV-resistant properties, without any chemicals needed.

An Innovation Made in Loewe Style

Under the creative direction of Jonathan Anderson, Loewe has been quietly transforming luxury to be more sustainable. And the orange-toned Pyratex fabric fits right in. It’s vivid, lightweight, and moisture-regulating, perfect for modern pieces that both feel and look good.

This citrus-based material tells a story of waste repurposed, of Italian textile heritage, of science meeting style. It’s Loewe doing what Loewe does best: making the unexpected feel essential.

A Quick Peel-Through

What’s new here?

  • Orange Fiber yarn: Made from citrus juice byproducts.

  • Pyratex R&D: Spun into functional, bio-based textiles.

  • Loewe design: Transformed into wearable garments.

What’s the impact?

  • Uses waste that would otherwise be discarded (60% of the citrus fruit’s weight).

  • Reduces chemical and water use.

  • Is transparent and traceable from the fruit to the fibres used.
