On Cyclon™ Subscription Model Closing the Loop

Discover how On’s Cyclon™ subscription model is reshaping sportswear sustainability by offering recyclable running shoes designed for circularity — reducing waste and keeping materials in use.
On Cyclon™

On is a Swiss performance sports brand founded by Oliver Bernhard, created to deliver “a running shoe with a new feel — more like running on clouds.” The brand specialises in ethical sportswear for road and trail running, hiking, tennis, and indoor footwear.

What is the On Cyclon™ Subscription Model?

The Cyclon™ is designed to be used, then sent back to On for proper recycling. Their motto, “You commit to the experience, not the shoes,” sets a clear goal for this circular collection.

On’s running shoes feature an outsole with a bubble-like 3D structure called CloudTec®, engineered for optimal traction and grip.

The brand aims to bring circularity into the mainstream, without sacrificing style or quality. The Cyclon collection is crafted from PA-11, a renewable material derived from castor beans (yes, beans!).

Using renewable and natural materials reduces reliance on synthetic fibres like spandex and polyester, which are typically made from oil and fossil fuels.

Even though On products contain polyester, this is 100% recycled, meaning there are reduced or eliminated carbon emissions and oil extractions from the earth. The brand works with Infinite Loop™ technology to spin used polyester into new, recycled, and ready-to-use material, helping close the loop in fashion

On Cyclon™ Closed Loop Collection

Whether you’re running, hiking, or just styling your look, On delivers — with a side of thoughtful, sustainable practices. On has developed a range of  Cyclon™ for customers to try sportswear that is meant to be recycled, never thrown out. We will highlight a few of our favourite items:

Why are Subscription Models a Circular Solution?

Subscription models offer a sustainable solution by shifting the focus from ownership to access. Instead of buying and discarding products, customers “subscribe” to use them for as long as they need, after which the products are returned, recycled, or renewed for future use.

This approach reduces waste, extends the life cycle of materials, and encourages brands to design products with durability, recyclability, and minimal environmental impact in mind. In the case of On’s Cyclon™ model, subscribers enjoy high-performance shoes while actively contributing to a circular system that keeps materials in use and out of landfills.

At On, sustainability is more than just a buzzword — it’s a mission. By combining technology, innovation, material selection, circularity, and social impact, On is reimagining how we use sportswear.
