Climate goals at PUMA

A key pillar of PUMA’s sustainability strategy is its dedication to climate action.

carbon emissions

The brand has set science-based targets to drastically reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030:

By 2024, PUMA had already cut its direct emissions by 86%—a testament to its determined progress from 2017.

  • Direct Operations (Scope 1 & 2): PUMA aims for a 90% absolute reduction in emissions from 2017 levels by using renewable energy, electrifying its fleet, and minimising air travel unless powered by biofuels.

  • Supply Chain (Scope 3): PUMA targets a 33% reduction in emissions by working closely with suppliers to improve energy efficiency and shift toward renewable energy.

Circularity at PUMA

PUMA is embracing circular business models to reduce waste and keep materials in use for longer:

Human Rights Fair: Inclusive Workplaces

Beyond environmental goals, PUMA’s Vision 2030 prioritises human rights:

  • Worker Training: The company aims to train 400,000 workers on human rights topics, including gender equality and harassment prevention.

  • Gender Pay Equity: PUMA is committed to closing the gender pay gap across its operations and main suppliers by 2030.

  • Community Engagement: PUMA pledges 25,000 hours of community engagement each year worldwide.

PUMA sustainability

The brand has pushed sustainable initiatives like their compostable sneakers made from RE: SUEDE, and their textile-to-textile recycling program with RE: FIBRE.

Future of Sustainability at PUMA

PUMA has been investing in and developing sustainable practices, slowly incorporating circularity into its business models. Experimental projects like RE:SUEDE and VIVID VISIONS have positioned the brand as a pioneer of innovation in sportswear sustainability.

As the landscape for sustainability expands, there is a sense of hope coming from PUMA. However, the lack of demand and action from customers to support these initiatives is making it difficult for circular products to enter the market and be widely accepted.
