Founded in 1947 in Annecy, France, Salomon originally specialised in ski bindings and has since expanded into a wide range of outdoor and athletic gear.

In the 1990's Salomon saw a shift toward trail running and exploring. In 2013, they cemented their presence with the TrailRunner XT-6, which is still beloved to this day. The brand has been recognised for its ongoing innovation in outdoor sport.

Salomon has presented three key priorities for 2030: circular performance, climate ambitions and The Salomon Foundation.

As part of its “Change Our Tomorrow 2030” strategy, Salomon has pledged to cut its absolute carbon emissions by 30% by 2030, using 2019 as the baseline year.

This target is scientifically aligned with the Paris Agreement, supporting the global goal of limiting temperature rise to no more than 1.5°C and contributing to meaningful climate action.

The Salomon Foundation

The Salomon Foundation was established back in 1999 with the purpose of promoting outdoor access and sport for all. The Foundation supports charities and non-profit organisations that help disadvantaged communities have access to the outdoors.

Repair

The outdoor brand has also been making efforts in the repair sector of circularity. Working in partnership with Green Wolf for several years, the duo has been restoring and repairing gear so you can enjoy it for longer.

Recycle

A key focus of the brand’s efforts is improving the recyclability of its products, especially footwear and textiles, through collaborations with French innovators CETIA and Carbios.

Since 2021, Salomon has worked alongside CETIA to explore new ways of recycling worn-out shoes and garments. One of their standout projects, Re_Shoes, centres on creating a more circular approach to footwear by rethinking how shoes can be taken apart at the end of their life.

CETIA is currently developing a shoe dismantling demonstrator, a machine designed to separate shoe components efficiently—an essential step in enabling large-scale recycling.

Future at Salomon

Salomon’s sustainability vision doesn’t end with design—it also includes a science-based climate transition plan. In 2023, the company reduced its carbon emissions by 7% compared to the previous year.
